So where are all the Hurricanes?

NOAA predicts 8 to 14 hurricanes during the 2010 hurricane season.

Colorado State University
Named Storms 15
Hurricanes 8

But so far of the five storms, only one has had winds above 75 miles per hour (Alex).

On the one hand, it is early days - U'd wait until mid-September for a count.

On the other hand, these are the agencies that posted figures showing temps around the Great Lakes were above normal - only to have some outsider notice that several stations were recording temps up to 600 degrees. Gosh, could that have affected the average?
